Seit ihrer Gründung in Antwerpen im Jahre 2002 eilt SUKILOVE der Ruf voraus, eine der interessantesten und mutigsten Bands Belgiens zu sein. Frontmann und Haupt-Songschreiber Pascal Deweze (der unter anderem auch noch bei einer stattliche Zahl anderer Bands aktiv ist, namentlich: METAL MOLLY, MITSOOBISHY JACSON, MAURO PAWLOWSKI & THE GROOMS, CHITLIN’ FOOKS und Ih8 CAMERA) ist ein Meister des texturalen Songwritings und verschrobenen Popentwurfs.

Jüngere Highlights seiner Karriere umfassen Auftritte beim letztjährigen Pukkelpop Festival, sein guesting in Alex Chiltons Liveband am Bass (mit der auch das Album „Live in Anvers“ aufgenommen wurde), zahlreiche US-Tourneen, eine support Tour mit David Bowie und einen Beitrag zur Mojo Beatles-Cover-Compilation „Revolver reloaded“.

SUKILOVES 4. Album „Static Moves“ ist das erste Album, das in Dewezes eigenem Studio „Jezus“ aufgenommen wurde, wo er, neben seiner Musikertätigkeit, Bands wie CREATURES WITH THE ATOM BRAIN (feat. Mark Lanegan), TOM PINTENS und THE VAN JETS produziert.

In den glücklichen Stand versetzt, das Ticken der Studiouhr ignorieren zu können, würde man unendliche Studiosessions erwarten, extensive Overdubs, penibelst bearbeitete Stereo Xylophone, das übliche Streicher-Ensemble und Meditationen im Kerzenschein. Tatsächlich dauerten die Aufnahmen bloß 14 Tage, die, abgesehen von ein paar Vokales und Pianotupfern, live eingespielt sind. Das Ergebnis ist eine raue Sammlung von Songs, körnigen Melodien und technicolorhaften Dissonanzen.

Nennen wir es childish gothic, lautes und schwieriges easy listening oder homoerotischen Rock’n’Roll ohne Glitter. Monochromes, formelhaftes Popsongwriting geht jedenfalls anders.

“Wo hört das nur auf?”, mag sich der Hörer, die Hörerin fragen, wenn „Static Moves“ läuft – „Wo hat es bloß angefangen?“, würden wir entgegnen. Nachdem das Album in Benelux und UK bereits veröffentlicht wurde, folgt nun via Rewika Services der Relase in GSA.

2nd album “You Kill Me”, produced by John Morand (Sparklehorse, Cracker, …) reveals a gradual shift towards noisy, dark & distorted anti-pop. Popmatters claims: “One of the most interesting rock records of the year!”

2007 and 2008

Things get ever more complex. Nobody mentions the word .prog. But it’s a close call. Some innocent children run away but are dragged back in. Meanwhile releasing 2 EPs (limited edition “Sun Sun Sun” and “Natural Regression”) whilst spreading their peculiar gospel in a.o. US and UK. The song “You kill me” starts a second life as the trailersong to “You kill it, you cook it, you eat it” on BBC-TV
